Dramatic Video Game openings: An addendum for the viewing pleasure
This was written for Maglomaniac, circa January 29, 2014
I just finished checking out our maglomaniacal leader’s post
on dramatic video game openings. Awesome
stuff to say the least, I must say. But,
I couldn’t help but feel that some games were missing from this awesome list. Don’t get me wrong. These games have some pretty dramatic
openings, but I have found a few that have gotten my attention over the
years. So, here’s a few that come to
mind, when it comes to drama:
The Asmik/AKI n64
games
These games were, to me, the first games to give more of a
dramatic feel to wrestling. Recreating
some of the more dramatic moments in wrestling, they grabbed your attention and
then some. Also, Revenge was highly
anticipated with my family because an intro that long and that well thought out
had to be given praise. It set a great
standard.
Super Mario RPG: Legend
of the Seven Stars
My very first role playing game, and it taught me so
much. It also plays well as a “How To”
game for first time RPGs
Chrono Trigger
An epic story about time travel and high adventure, Chrono
Trigger is one of the best
Final Fight
Nothing got me more pumped than the music. Capcom, you made a fan out of me
The Legend of Zelda
The music captured the very magnitude of the game’s
story. Looking back, I always get pumped
listening to it, and even a bit emotional
Super Street Fighter
II
A new installment of a popular fighting game? Check!
But what about this intro displaying the awesomeness of the new CPS II
engine?
Street Fighter Alpha
2
Whenever I see this intro, I find myself narrating what each
fighter would say if they were asked this question: “Everyone dreams, even warriors. As warriors, what are your dreams?”
Donkey Kong 64
It’s the DK Rap, ok?
Evolution from funky beats on the SNES to a full-fledged intro song on
the N64
